Shakespeare In the Parking Lot Artistic Director to be a panelist at 2010 STAA Conference at Shakespeare's Globe in London.

 

Tacoma, WA (SITPL) December 8, 2009 -- Shakespeare In the Parking Lot Theatre Company’s Artistic Director, Kristie Worthey, is a panelist at the 2010 Shakespeare Theatre Association of America annual conference at Shakespeare’s Globe in London.

 

The theme for the STAA conference is, “Who Owns Shakespeare?”. Ms. Worthey will be a panelist on the topic, “Shakespeare: Playing Outside Of the Box” on January 9, 2010. Other participants on the panel include: Ian Gallanar of the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company; Stephen Burdman from New York Classical Theatre; and Patrick Spottiswoode from London’s Shakespeare’s Globe. The panelists will discuss how their work is produced in alternative environments, how  the environment effects Shakespeare’s text and what  they have learned about Shakespeare's plays by performing out of the theater space.

 

Shakespeare In the Parking Lot Theatre Company, whose mission is to take the fear out of Shakespeare by offering educational opportunities & engaging theatre productions inspired by the works of William Shakespeare in non-traditional and outdoor venues, was founded by Ms. Worthey in 1999 as part of a take back the streets initiative. SITPL has been a member of STAA since 2005.

 

“It is an honor to have Shakespeare In the Parking Lot's out of the box work in Tacoma over the past decade be recognized on  a national and international level,” says Worthey.

 

 

The Shakespeare Theatre Association of America was established to provide a forum for the artistic and managerial leadership of theatres whose central activity is the production of Shakespeare’s plays; to discuss issues and share methods of work, resources, and information; and to act as an advocate for Shakespearean productions and training in North America.

Shakespeare-a-Thon: a two-night William Shakespeare Birthday festival with Shakespeare In the Parking Lot Theatre Company @ Speakeasy Arts Cooperative.

 

Tacoma, WA (SITPL) In the midst of Tacoma's theatre and antiques district, the nationally recognized Shakespeare In the Parking Lot Theatre Company will present a marathon reading of the History Cycles, along with countless other performances, tarot, lessons, and music!!

 

Friday April 23rd and Saturday April 25 at the Speakeasy Arts Cooperative, 746 Broadway, Tacoma,WA 98402

 

Shakespeare In the Parking Lot Theatre Company's out of the box "taking the fear out of Shakespeare" 8-play History Cycle is a unique opportunity to see all of these rarely-produced plays in a marathon of just 2 nights.

 

Come join us in our Shakespeare-a-Thon, as more than 50 actors and Shakespeare enthusists recreate these epic plays - in "Shakespeare Unplugged" Staged Reading Performances. Raise a glass to three King Henry's and two King Richards (including the devilish Richard 3!) plus scores of conniving characters, dozens of dastardly deeds, numerous bloody battles and beheadings, in the story of 100 years of English history when two ambitious families fought over the crown and laid the groundwork for ideas we still live by today. Come see one or come see them all! Ticket prices are $24 to see all 8 or $8 for each individual play. Tickets will be available on line @ www.sitpl.org. The final show of the series, Richard the Third, will be presented free beginning at 12:01 am on Sunday, April 25th.

 

Along  with the play readings, Speakeasy Arts Cooperative will be filled with festival events: games of skill and chance with prizes; hands-on demonstrations of Renaissance costuming, swordfighting, art, music, dance, insults; plus costumed characters, tarot readings, and more!

 

 Speakeasy Arts Cooperative will offer works from local artisans, drink specials and delicious Elizabethan food throughout both evenings. Come join the William Shakespeare Birthday party event of the season!
